As a wedding photographer, I’ve shot in a lot of beautiful spaces across Trinidad. But the moment I stepped onto the grounds of Esperanza Alta, I understood immediately why so many couples are drawn to this Port of Spain wedding venue. It’s gorgeous…but more than that, it’s the kind of venue that makes my job genuinely easy. And as someone who has to deliver beautiful photos regardless of the weather, the time of day, or whatever curveballs a wedding throws at me, that matters more than most couples realise.
If you’re searching for a Port of Spain wedding venue, this is the one I’d point you to without hesitation.
Most venues have one or two good spots for photos. Esperanza Alta has them everywhere.
The property is surrounded by lush tropical foliage and shaded by the main house throughout the day… which means the light is consistently beautiful whether you’re shooting at 10am or early evening. In my experience, chasing golden hour on a wedding day creates more stress than it’s worth. An experienced photographer will deliver great photos at any time of day, but a venue with natural shade and soft, diffused light makes everything easier. If you happen to catch golden hour here, you’ve struck gold. But it’s nothing to stress about.
For this particular session, bridal portraits began at 4pm and as you can see from the photos, the light did not disappoint.
Esperanza Alta is a 19th-century Spanish-style home tucked into the mountains of St. Ann’s, a quiet neighbourhood in Port of Spain. The owner, Trudy, began offering the space as a wedding venue in 2020 and it has quickly become one of Trinidad’s most sought-after locations.
It’s easy to understand why. Couples want a nature-filled setting, views of the city, and a location close enough to town that guests don’t have to travel far. Esperanza Alta delivers all three and you won’t find that combination anywhere else in Port of Spain.
You’ll spot hummingbirds during the day. There is nowhere this serene in the city. Your out-of-town guests will thank you for it.
Start bridal portraits no later than 4pm. This gives you the best of the afternoon light and enough time to work through your shot list before the sun disappears especially important in the darker months when sunset comes quickly.
Get ready as close to the venue as possible. This bride used the on-site bridal suite to get dressed and have her final touches done with her makeup artist and it made the entire day run more smoothly. At my own wedding I got ready two streets from my venue and it saved me so much unnecessary stress. If you’re not using the on-site suite, The Brix Hotel is less than 5 minutes away and is a great alternative.
Keep the décor simple. The venue is already doing the heavy lifting you really don’t need much. For this session the bride chose simple table bouquets of ginger lilies and heliconias. Beautiful, unfussy, and very easy to DIY if you’re budget-conscious. If you’d rather not deal with it, Trudy’s team can point you in the right direction.
For a venue this beautiful, the amenities are genuinely impressive:
Can we get married here year-round? Yes… but Trinidad has two seasons, rainy and dry, so plan accordingly. In the event of rain, there is paved space on the property where a tent can be pitched, plus a large covered patio for shelter. Don’t let the possibility of rain talk you out of this venue.
Can we bring our own vendors? Absolutely.
Are there accommodations nearby for guests? Yes. The Brix and Hilton hotels are both within 5 minutes of the venue — great options for out-of-town guests who are new to Trinidad. There are also plenty of Airbnbs in the area.
How far in advance should we book? Most wedding venues in Trinidad can only accommodate a limited number of weddings per month, so the sooner you reach out to Trudy the better. You can contact her directly through her page for availability and pricing.

And if you’re still looking for a photographer for your Port of Spain wedding, I’d love to be considered. Esperanza Alta is one of my favourite places to shoot in all of Trinidad — and I’d jump at the chance to capture your day there.
